State of Design takes place during Berlin Design Week as well as in other locations worldwide with the goal of connecting people, concepts, and ideas. The event dissects design as a whole, bringing to light its inspiration, the development process, as well as its global, political, social or economical impact.
Bureau Borsche was asked to create the corporate identity and website for the State of Design. To embrace all cultures and create a new multi-ethnic State of Design, we developed a flexible logo and signage system that works with different wordings, places, languages, and letters. To even make this possible, we used a typeface uniting all letters and glyphs. To break the unified look, we combined a serif for all numbers and created a customized font out of the two. Circled icons are inspired by money security watermarks, as if the corporate identity were an international design currency. Using hologram foil for all basic information we furthered the impression of a currency. The website and poster design is based on the idea of a simple flag grid, bringing the concept back around to the original idea of the multiethnic state.
