Horst was founded in 2012 by photographer, stylist, and man-about-town Mr. Armin Morbach. Its pages reflect on the lifestyle of modern, gay men, who don’t feel defined by their sexual orientation but see their homosexuality as just another detail. Rather a dull-sounding German name like Klaus or Detlef, Horst is also slang for a very hard cock. As such, it’s the perfect handle for a magazine that deals with the body, its needs, and sexuality, with a sense of self-assured masculinity and humor. The Bureau’s art direction, an unusual use of typography, and a selection of provocative yet sensitive contributors have made Horst a cult classic.
