An architectural highlight of the Starnberger See, the Buchheim Museum holds Mr. Lothar-Günther Buchheim's collection of expressionist art with works by Erich Heckel, Emil Nolde, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Max Pechstein. Among this collection are also excellent examples of folk art—from Africa to Asia—which Mr. Buchheim collected during his extensive travels.
For the 2014 special summer exhibition Grosz Krieg Grotesk on artist George Grosz, the Buchheim Museum asked the Bureau to create a design for posters, brochures, flyers, as well as the exhibition catalogue. We used a flexible pattern of letters in reminiscence of a traditional letterpress. This gave us room to play with cut-outs of watercolors and illustrations of the artist throughout the design.
The exhibition catalogue is reminiscent of a traditional letterpress with embossed letters on the cover. A silkscreen printed lining gives a first impression of Grosz’ illustrations. The font, layout and colors refer to the period of the artist’s work.
