Die Neue Sammlung is one of the leading design museums of the world. With over 100,000 catalogued items die Neue Sampling can boast at having one of the largest design collections of which it’s rooms display a mere selection of objects ranging from the applied arts to industrial and graphic design. Founded in 1907, it is also the world’s oldest design museum. Die Neue Sammlung is one of four independent museums housed within the Pinakothek der Moderne Munich. Its permanent exhibition shows a selection of approx. 80.000 objects, on the history and development of design. Exhibitions on future-oriented design offer a varied playground of contemporary styles.
Bureau Borsche created the corporate identity for the Sampling using a basic flag as our main inspiration. The doubling of typography is used to display the museum’s name in both German and English, either placed horizontally or vertically to create a whole.
The names of the designers featured in the museum are written in custom-made typefaces that aim to emulate the core ideas of the designers’ work without the need to show imagery. These self-made typefaces offer a reduced and fun form of creative freedom for our poster designs, the in-house lettering, ads, banners, flyers, and website of Die Neue Sammlung.
